Austria
Füssen - Ehrwald (38 km)
After a good breakfast at the bakery in the old town, we set off. The bike path first runs in the Lech valley and passes the the Lechfall. Meanwhile in Austria, we cycled in beautiful weather through small towns along the Lech to Reutte. Here we strengthened ourselves again in a cafe, because afterwards the first 15%-ige rise follows. From Lähn at 1130 m it goes downhill again to Lermoos and Ehrwald, the Zugspitze already firmly in view. After we happily thought to have mastered the first short mountain stage, I saw at Google Maps where our hotel was: kilometers steeply up the Zugspitz road, at the lifts of the Ehrwalder Wettersteinbahnen 😥.
If then still at 14% incline a local woman cycles to you and wants to make conversation with you, you see exactly where currently still the limits are on the mountain 😨. But the gigantic view of the nearby Zugspitze compensated, moreover, was blue sky. The hotel was almost empty, we could hardly imagine with the idyll here. So we just enjoyed the sun and the view, turned into the nearby beer garden and experienced the evening with the increasingly reddish mountain peaks.
Ehrwald - Landeck (58 km)
Early the next morning I got lost again several times between Ehrwald and Lermoos before we found the right exit from the valley. After Biberwier it went strongly uphill, after a mountain railroad station the way led past the picturesque Weißensee. Thereupon began an increasingly steep gravel path, in sweltering heat. At a viewing platform one had a super view into the valley. Less beautiful were the scuffles between the cyclists, because the path to the Fernpass was temporarily narrower. E-bikers were of the opinion to show off on the mountain: what is in them or their battery and pushed whereever they could. Here we lost again, we ended up directly at the Fernpass, instead of following the bike path past it. So we rewarded ourselves there with a Capucchino, before we the rapid descent in attack.
It goes through the forest and past steep rock faces, partly also on board paths around the rocks. Besides you have a spectacular view into the valley. After the descent, we continued on a level route mostly through the forest to Imst, behind which we cycled along the Inn through its beautiful valley to Landeck. A few kilometers before the finish we sat down in a beer garden at a rest stop next to the bike path, it was meanwhile very sultry. There I got a call, our booked hotel had an emergency, we had to change to another hotel. Does not bother us, accommodations are important to us only for sleeping. After we had sweated out the drinks the last kilometers, we ended up at a biker hotel.
Immediately refill liquid in the idyllic beer garden 🙂. After a few discussions about price and Coronatest, we surrendered to evening to an endlessly good evening buffet. Next to our room had another inconsiderate lady locked up her two dogs, which then yapping in an endless loop, but Manu fixed that. We had to rest, tomorrow came proper climbs. But we were run in in the meantime.
