In the morning we returned to the bike path, on paved roads we passed orchards, vineyards and Castelbello Castle. The Adige grew into a raging river, this was
used at Töll in the hydroelectric power plant, powerful water masses rushed down here. Shortly before Merano, the road winds down several serpentines, from
which you have a beautiful view of the city. We drove into the old town, Manu went strolling, I sat in the park. A man, singing opera, set up his ice cream
truck. It was afterwards however an Odyssee to find back on the cycle track. Back on the Adige, the path led past apple orchards and small villages,
surrounded by mountain massifs. You can also find several bike rests on the Adige, which we used only too voluntarily 🙂.
Despite the fact that Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol with its Sigmundskron Castle and Reinhold Messner Mountain Museum, could be seen from afar, for some
unknown reason we drove past it for 5 km. Here, several rivers flow into the Etsch, including the Eisack, from here it is therefore considered navigable.
Back towards the city it was noisy and hectic, again unusual for us. We searched first the accommodation to unload our things, after that
we strolled through the city center, over the Walther Square with the Walther statue and the many cafes and restaurants. In the flower garden of the hotel courtyard
the evening beer concluded the day.
At the beginning, the weather was still dry, and we continued along the dead-straight cycle path along the Adige. Mountain massifs continued to line the river valley.
A large chestnut tree then had to serve as a rain shelter for the first break. It remained cloudy, but the path was beautiful and easy to ride.
Before San Michele we encountered once again inconsiderate groups of cyclists who drove in twos or threes towards us and chatted, without
to notice that there is who oncoming. Happened to us frequently on the route. Just as e-bikers, who overtake a narrowly, without being noticed before
to make. I then shouted accordingly loud 🙂. At Lavis, the bike path is not continuous and a detour leads a few kilometers into the village
to the first bridge. After the last rest before Trento went to the beautiful city center. The accommodation did everything contactless via access codes via Whatsapp,
so we could check in right away.
Then we went to the beautiful Piazza del Duomo with the Cathedral of San Vigilio, Palazzo Pretorio and the Fountain of Neptune. Sporadically the sun came out,
which lured us at intervals into the beer gardens. Today we had pizza to go and ended the evening on the Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore.
From tomorrow, the Via Claudia Augusta also divides into two routes, we already know that we will continue the route to the Po.
