Lenzen - Boizenburg (86 km)
In the morning, the bike path continued along the dam through the Elbe meadows in beautiful weather. Shortly after Lenzen we made rest at an old border tower. This was followed by an art installation on the meadow: Charon, the ferryman, who brings the dead for a Obolus over the dead river. First long on the border between Niedersachsen and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the bike path then led to Boizenburg. On the right Dörnitz was the only larger village, otherwise pure nature, a long biosphere reserve along the former border. A short stretch of forest ran through Rüterberg, a place that proclaimed itself a village republic in 1989 due to its isolation on both sides of the border. Cafes, which we had chosen were mostly closed.
So we were glad that halfway there was a mobile for self-service. Between Sude and Elbe ran the last kilometers, then it went along the Boize to the westernmost city of Mecklenburg. After the obligatory Radler beer in a sunny beer garden, we discovered the old town and walked to the harbor, where on the green meadow some willow- and wooden works of art were to be seen, among other things the so-called willow snail. We then ended the day with a good time at a Greek place: Athens 🙂.
Boizenburg - Hamburg (66 km)
Slightly uphill today, we first went along roads to Lauenburg, through the beautiful old town with its half-timbered houses. In the process we crossed the border to Schleswig-Holstein. At the Lauenburger Rufer, a bronze sculpture, we rested briefly before we took the predominantly wooded route to Geesthacht we tackled. Often on gravel roads and quite hilly, this ran through a nature reserve. Behind the town we were already in the next federal state: Hamburg. The last 30 km or so lead straight and relaxed past the Kirchwerder Wiesen into the city.
It took us a while to find the accommodation, but then it was time for sightseeing. From Klostertor we walked past the Deichtorhallen through the canals of the Speicherstadt. In the Hafencity we visited the beautiful Elbphilharmonie with a great view over the harbor area. At the Niedernhafen on the promenade were many stalls, fresh fish had to be here simply. Opposite we saw the Musical Boulevard. On the way back at the Miniatur Wunderland there was then the all-evening beer at one of the bistros.
