Eggishorn - Goms

Valais Alps Along the Rhône we drove first to Fiesch. There we were waiting for the brand-new gondola cable car, which brought us to the Fiescheralp at 2212 meters above sea level. From there we went by aerial cable car up to the 2,869 meter high Eggishorn. Here a unique view of the Aletsch Glacier and the panorama of the Valais and Bernese Alps opened up. Here you could see the Mont Blanc, the Matterhorn, the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau and many more, thus a whole chain of famous mountains. The Aletsch Glacier here is the longest glacier in the Alps with 23 km, but this is changing worryingly. The hours flew by in brilliant weather.

Valais Alps Back on the Fiescheralp we walked through the well-attended skiing area, on one side there are beautiful slopes for skiing, on the other side you can see beautiful mountain ridges. In the afternoon we drove to Goms, the easternmost part of the canton of Valais. This landscape forms the wide valley of the Rhône with beautiful old Valais villages and snow-capped mountains. In winter it is a cross-country skiing paradise with about 100 km of trails, in summer there are about 700 km of hiking trails available.

Broc - Pilatus

Valais Alps We went north again today. Again through the Rhône Valley and past Lake Geneva, we landed in Broc. We visited the local chocolate factory Callier, which now belongs to Nestle. Here we made a tour through the adventure exhibition, of course with a subsequent tasting 🙂. Already sophisticated art, what the confectioners produce there, especially the sculptures. Continuing through the Bernese Oberland, the path took us over the Brünig Pass towards Kriens. Here we first took a gondola cable car to Fräkmüntegg. We didn’t know the mountain before and found the first cable car ride through fog banks spectacular.

Valais Alps Once there, a dreamlike view opened up over green hills up to white mountain peaks. However, the view of Lake Lucerne was obscured by a thick wall of fog in the valley. The modern cable car Dragon Ride continued just as spectacularly up Pilatus-Kulm at 2,073 m above sea level. Big crows were waiting for us like on the Matterhorn and a fabulous panorama over the mountains. A couple of meters away from the Hotel Pilatus-Kulm we ran up the stairs to the top of the Oberhaupt at 2106 meters. The highest point of the Pilatus is the 2,128 m high Tomlishorn. On the so-called dragon way we crossed a tunnel with viewing windows around the summit of the Oberhaupt.

Pilatus - Rheintal

Valais Alps It had become fresh, during warm-up periods in the hotel we saw until the beautiful sunset among others the Säntis, Titlis and Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau, a panoramic view over the Central Swiss and Bernese Alps. There's nothing like going out in style. Following the motto, we went after an aperitif in the Capricorn bar to the Queen Victoria Hall for dinner. After getting up early we were allowed to admire the sunrise on Mount Pilate. Afterwards we went down again with the cable car to Kriens and then further home, through fairytale landscapes, there was morning frost on the meadows and trees.

Valais Alps The Rhine Valley awakened memories of my journey to Jerusalem in me, for days I followed the Rhine with a tent to Dissentis. A visual highlight had its end here, some luck with the weather was part of it 🙂.
