This morning again dolphins, minke and humpback whales were sighted. Mostly then came over the ship's radio the announcement from the expedition leader: "Whale blast at 11 o'clock" or similar and the entire crowd pushed in the direction, armed with the most bizarre photographic technology. There are relatively many whales and dolphins on the north coast of Iceland, we were in front of the entrance to Eyjafjordur. There we made the first excursion to a beautiful waterfall, Godafoss, after that we went for a little walk through the town. I think it was the 4th largest city in Iceland with 18000 inhabitants. All beautifully enclosed by picturesque mountains. Mostly several excursions were offered and one and you could choose the appropriate one. So there was also a whale safari, where humpback whales were to be seen and a trip to a hot spring for bathing.
In the evening we enjoyed again the beautiful exit from the fjord at dinner on deck. Here we ate from now on only, because the restaurant became unreasonable for us. We had to sit there partly 2 hours and were dependent on the evening menu. On deck, we could quickly choose from a buffet and had a wonderful view. Out of the fjord on the sea there were later again many whale and dolphin sightings.
At sea
Now we are heading for East Greenland while crossing the Denmark Strait. Therefore, on today's sea day there were some lecturer lectures about East Greenland expeditions and on glacier formation. The first iceberg of the voyage appeared and was duly welcomed: The captain drove the MS Albatros once around the whole iceberg. Looks good already, the deep blue 🙂.
Yes, since Iceland there is only the expensive internet connection on the ship (20€ the hour), I used that once, but was too slow for the price. My hope to find open WLAN's on Greenland should not be confirmed later. Only in Nuuk, the capital I had once luck before a hotel. Otherwise, our usual procedure for sea days: breakfast, explore what's going on and look at the sea, table tennis, foosball, lunch, a little fitness and if the wind plays along, swimming. Daily greets the groundhog 🙂. On deck there was also a nice violin concert.
