At sea
Yes, besides our usual activities to get at least some exercise, there were 3 lectures scheduled today. The one about the Faroe Islands, our next destination and a Viking lecture we attended. Paul also spent a lot of time today with Luca, a boy of the same age at the foosball table. And I started to take at least a few photos, of the premises, in which we moved on the sea days to 90%.
Thorshavn
Early we anchored in the capital of the Faroe archipelago of 18 islands, Thorshavn. We had booked a panoramic cruise and were even lucky that Kiesewetter was our guide, he had grown up here. About Greenland and Iceland I had read something before, about the Faroe Islands not. I was thrilled. Moderate climate due to the Gulf Stream and the many bays and deep green steep mountains, a very beautiful area. In addition with an enormously high standard of living. Even a football stadium, FIFA-appropriate, has been newly built, because once again a World Cup qualifier with Germany is coming up. The current Prime Minister was the former goalkeeper here 🙂
The red houses in the photo belonged to the government district, one could have walked right through here to the Prime Minister. But as always, Kiesewetter reminded us, to respect privacy. According to his experience, this was justified, because he had already seen tourists in Greenland standing in Inuit houses without warning. Once they ran even despite warning with pulled out camera on a polar bear, fortunately that was full and not interested. In my opinion he could at least have shown his fist once 🙂. It was a wonderful trip here, then we ran something through the city, also WLAN gave's on the Faroe Islands again. At noon but already the anchor was lifted direction Bremerhafen. There was a good lecture about the Arctic and Antarctic in the afternoon.
Arrival in Bremerhaven
The course towards the North Sea went now with 15 knots between Orkney and Shetland Islands, which we passed last night. The North Sea awaited us with seas of 6 and above, the ship was rocking sideways. As I knew from the explanations on the bridge, this movement was braked from a certain strength by lateral paddles. But Paul swam quite well even with wave heights of one meter, and that with a pool only 10 meters long. So we spent the last day at sea swimming and playing. A review of the trip was given by the lecturers, the rest of the day I had to pay the board bill, pick up duty-free goods and pack. During the night, the luggage collectors were on their way and the next morning the Weser pilot guided us safely to Bremerhaven. Everything was already over. We had covered a total of 7220 nautical miles, and now the Albatros was already being prepared for departure in the afternoon towards the Baltic Sea. An organizational masterstroke. Respect.
Conclusion: Scenic gigantic, fascinating. Organization almost perfect. We personally were able to compromise so that we both had 25 wonderful days.
